Growing up in a suburban sheltered environment, my body hair has always been something I've been embarrassed about. It grows thick and dark and a lot faster than most of the girls I've been surrounded by. Embarrassed of my bushy eyebrows or being labelled as the "girl with the hairy arms", I've grown up wanting to fit this norm of being hairless and silky smooth, this norm of being "femme".
Shot in 35mm film, this self portrait series is personal exploration of that and breaking out of my comfort zone to photograph the intimacy of myself, my body, and my hair. This uncontrollable growth makes me human, why was I ever trying to fight it?
I will no longer let that discourage, and especially, define my femininity.
